After the Royston Group disintegrated towards the end of the 1960s, Vox in the UK was rescued by a new owner, the Corinthian bank. Initially they continued selling leftover E.M.E-made Vox's from Recanati in Italy, although these were quickly replaced by a new line of Japanese guitars.

The new range was based on Gretsch and Gibson designs, but were well-made. There were three semi-acoustics, the VG4 (bass), VG6, VG12 (twelve-string), an SG-shaped SG200 guitar and SG200 bass, plus the VG2. It appears that their distribution was primarily (if not solely) aimed at the UK market. The Vox VG2 (or Vox Giant 2) was a semi-solid Gibson Les Paul copy. The following description comes from the 1970 Vox full-line catalogue.

This is the best-selling Vox semi solid. It has a twin pick-up lead and separate tone volume controls. There is a three way selector switch that gives real sound. And for fine playing there's an adjustable bridge.

It has a few small "dings," lightly checked finish, oxidized hardware, and aged plastic parts. Classic alder body and maple neck wood combination with round laminate rosewood fretboard, 20 vintage-style frets, 34" scale, and 1.5" nut width.
